Mike Phillips

CONSULTANT
In a 40-year career, Mike Phillips has led newsrooms to recognition for investigative reporting, design, photography and community service.

He is an industry leader who pioneered civic journalism, was one of the developers of the Learning Newsroom training concept and worked with the National

Phillips capped 25 years of working as an editor or publisher for E.W. Scripps with five years on the Scripps corporate staff, overseeing the company’s newsrooms. He is a highly skilled trainer and management coach who has been a speaker, teacher or workshop organizer for virtually every industry organization and many media companies.

Now 60, Phillips joined Creative Circle Media Consulting upon his retirement from Scripps.

With Creative Circle, he specializes in teaching news managers how to lead cultural change, to connect interactively with news consumers and to coach journalists through the many creative processes used in a digital, multimedia news operation.

He lives with his wife, Nancye, in Fort Mitchell, KY, where he also studies painting at the Cincinnati Academy of Art and operates a sculpture and furniture design studio.
