WHO ARE WE?

CAROLYN FLYNN

CONSULTANT, AUTHOR
Carolyn Flynn is a journalist, media consultant, newspaper designer and author of literary fiction and nonfiction based in Rio Rancho, New Mexico.

She is the editor of SAGE Magazine, an award-winning monthly magazine for women that appears in the Albuquerque Journal (www.abqjournal.com/sage), known for its cutting-edge work on domestic violence. She was assistant managing editor/photo and design for the Albuquerque Journal for six years, during which she led the team that redesigned the paper, winning many awards from the Society for News Design. She served on the organizing committee for the annual Society for News Design international competition, and chaired the competition in 1999. Her other redesign projects include the Santa Cruz Sentinel, Santa Cruz, Calif., and the Herald News, West Paterson, N.J.

HER PREVIOUS NEWSPAPER EXPERIENCE includes reporting, copy editing and design stints at The Arizona Republic, the Lexington (Ky.) Herald-Leader, the Owensboro (Ky.) Messenger-Inquirer and the Enterprise-Journal, McComb, Miss. From classified advertising to sports writing to leading a redesign to editing a women’s magazine, she has pretty much done everything in newspapers but deliver the paper.

In addition to her newspaper work, she has written two nonfiction books, and her literary fiction has appeared in the anthology Wilde Frauen and in The Crescent Review and Ellipsis. When she is not writing and consulting, she stays busy raising her boy/girl twins.
